Nature education workshop offered to nonformal and formal teachers

Audubon of the Rockies, Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge and the Wyoming Game and Fish Department are teaming up to offer a workshop offering instruction in Project WILD, Wild about Elk, Aquatic WILD and Flying WILD for formal and non-formal educators.

This fun, hands-on workshop is being held at the Kemmerer Junior/Senior High School, Thursday, July 26 and at Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge on Friday, July 27, (via car pool). Thursday’s class is 8:30 am to 5 pm and Friday’s class is 8 am to 1 pm. Lunch is provided on Thursday, but please bring a sack lunch on Friday. Thanks to a grant from the Southwest Sage Grouse Working group, the cost for the workshop is only $40 and includes four curriculum guides, activity materials, and snacks. Educators attending this workshop will earn one hour of Professional Teaching Standards Board (PTSB) credit, free of charge.  Deadline to apply for the workshop is July 23.

Project WILD is a national award-winning resource and environmental education curricula focusing on wildlife. The inquiry-based curriculum meets NGSS and STEM for science, social studies, and language arts, are cross-curricular, and adaptable for grades K-12.  There will be opportunities at this workshop to network with fellow educators and local professionals. On July 26, participants will go through various activities from each curriculum and learn how to implement the activities in the classroom and into their curriculum. On July 27 (day 2), participants will car pool and use more of the activities in the setting of Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge. Workshop participants are advised to wear comfortable shoes, as the workshop is guaranteed to be non-stop and action-packed, with outside and indoor activities.

For more information and to register for the workshop contact Katie Theule at 307-413-8157 or Lucy Wold at 307-875-3223.
