Sheridan - Levi Wood recently joined the Wyoming Game and Fish Department Sheridan Region as the South Gillette game warden.

Wood, a Wyoming native, graduated from Cheyenne Central High school and attended the University of Wyoming where he received a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and Management in 2013.

He worked for the University of Wyoming COOP Unit on a project researching the effects of oil and gas development on sagebrush song bird species near Pinedale before joining the Game and Fish Department in 2015.

He worked two consecutive summers as a fisheries technician in Laramie while working the winters as a Hunt Management Coordinator. Wood was hired as a game warden in 2016 and was first stationed in Green River where he focused on watercraft enforcement on Flaming Gorge Reservoir. In 2017 he was transferred to the Alpine game warden position where he spent a year assisting senior game wardens in the Jackson and Pinedale regions.

Wood, along with his two Labrador retrievers Jax and Ridger, moved to Gillette and began his new duties in early December.

“I grew up hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors,” said Wood. “I played ice hockey through high school and college and I still play as much as I can.”

“I’m excited for this next step in my career as a game warden,” he added. “I’m looking forward to developing relationships with the community of Gillette and working to protect and conserve the great wildlife resource that Wyoming has to offer.”
