Wyoming outfitters recognize Saratoga game warden

Laramie -  Saratoga Game Warden Biff Burton received the 2018 Wyoming Outfitters and Guides Association (WYOGA) Agency Personnel of the Year Award. Burton and his wife, Lisa, attended the WYOGA banquet in Casper on April 6, where he was presented the award in front of more than 200 outfitters, guides, hunters and current/past department leaders.
Outfitter Jim Schell of Rough Country Outfitters and Guides nominated Burton. Schell cited the warden’s professionalism, positive and friendly demeanor, dedication and ability to work positively with a wide array of publics on wildlife issues within the Platte Valley and the Saratoga Game Warden District.
Warden Burton has been serving the people and wildlife of Wyoming for 39 years. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Conservation and Management from the University of Wyoming in 1978, he began his Game and Fish Career as a seasonal employee. He worked at various positions in northwest Wyoming, including feeding elk, doing construction, habitat development, fisheries, and wildlife surveys.
He was hired as a game warden trainee in 1982 and worked out of Cheyenne, Laramie, Casper, Lander, and Green River. He also worked on the reservoir enforcement crew in the Platte River Reservoirs. He was appointed to the game warden position in Gillette in 1983, and transferred to Saratoga in 1989. That same year, Burton received the Shikar-Safari Wildlife Officer of the Year award.
“We are honored that Warden Burton received this recognition from the Wyoming Outfitters and Guides Association,” said Rick King, Laramie Region wildlife supervisor. “It shows his high level of dedication to the people and wildlife of Wyoming.”
Burton and wife Lisa live in Saratoga and have three children.
