Cheyenne - The Laramie Region initiated a pika monitoring study in July. The surveys will allow us to provide long-term data on pika population trends in the Snowy Range and Sierra Madres. Morphological traits, including body size and fur color, can buffer populations against environmental variability and, as a result, have the potential to enhance population stability in an uncertain future. Understanding the extent and limit of this type of local adaptation is a critical step towards accurately quantifying species vulnerability to rapid change.
