Laramie - Herbicide applications were completed in Sybille Canyon and the eastern flanks of the Laramie Range northwest of Wheatland to control cheatgrass in areas burned by wildfire events in 2018.  A germination inhibiting herbicide was applied via helicopter on steep, rugged terrain prior to receiving fall moisture and subsequent expected cheatgrass green up.  High winds resulted in grounding of the helicopter on numerous days in September. Approximately 6,000 acres remain to be treated in late Summer 2020 in areas impacted by wildfire. Areas treated or slated for treatment are important seasonal ranges for elk, mule deer, and bighorn sheep.
