if you catch them in Flaming Gorge Reservoir on the Wyoming side

Green River - WGFD game wardens patrolling Flaming Gorge Reservoir have noticed an upswing in anglers violating Wyoming's fishing regulations, especially when it comes to smallmouth bass on Flaming Gorge Reservoir, according to Green River Game Wardens Cody Schoonover and Jake Brown.

"Over the past month we have seen an increase in anglers keeping smallmouth bass on the Gorge and that is against Wyoming fishing regulations," said Schoonover.  "Some of the anglers who are issued warnings or citations are from Utah, where anglers may keep smallmouth bass on the Utah side of Flaming Gorge Reservoir. While we sympathize with them a little, if you are going to fish Wyoming, you need to pick up a free copy of the 2018 Wyoming Fishing Regulations from any license vendor,  Game and Fish regional office, or print them from the Wyoming Game and Fish Website."

Wyoming regulations state that, "All smallmouth bass shall be returned to the water immediately." (Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Sweetwater County) This regulation is found on page 28 of Wyoming's fishing regulations and is listed under AREA 4 EXCEPTIONS TO STATEWIDE REGULATIONS. Area 4 is the Green River, Little Snake River, Bear River and Great Divide Basin drainages.

Smallmouth bass populations in the Gorge/Wyoming side have been decimated by the illegally introduced burbot, also called ling, in the early 2000's. For more information or to ask questions please contact Green River fisheries biologists at 307-875-3223.
