HUNTING IN WYOMING

Beginning in 2014, applicants will no longer be placed on a priority list. Instead, they will remit the license fee during the initial application period (March 1 - 31) and a random drawing will be conducted to determine successful applicants. Successful applicants for this year were notified in mid-May.

A person must be fourteen (14) years of age or older prior to September 15 of the season for which the wild bison license is issued, in addition to meeting all other requirements, in order to apply for a wild bison license.

Applicants successful in drawing a wild bison license can apply for a permit to hunt the National Elk Refuge. The application process for National Elk Refuge hunting permits is conducted in cooperation with the National Elk Refuge prior to the start of the hunting season. Applications are available through the Wyoming Game and Fish Department's website, AccessYes Access Program. Alternate permits will also be available during the fall for each hunt period through the Department’s website.
