Topography and Vegetation: Shoshone National Forest is mountainous terrain, whereas the lower elevations are rolling foothills consisting of sagebrush/grasslands and juniper/limber pine ridges.
General Statement regarding this hunt area: The area has a several different license types. The Type 2 licenses are a later bull hunt for the first two weeks of November. This license is also valid in area 63 at this time. The Type 6 and 7 cow/calf licenses have different season dates and limitations. Most of the harvest with these licenses occurs within the Absaroka Front HMA or scattered BLM parcels along Owl Creek. There are some ranches that do allow hunting access for a fee. The area is known for having quality bulls, with some in the +350” range. There are plenty of grizzly bears in the area, so precautions and Forest Service regulations must be followed.
Additional Hunting Opportunities: Area 83 antelope and deer areas 119 and 120 have an overlapping season, but not entirely (need to check regulations).
