Topography and Vegetation: Consists mostly of rolling sagebrush/grasslands hills and ridges, intermixed with some deeper draws and canyons.
General Statement regarding this hunt area: The area has very limited access to hunt elk due to private lands. Typically elk are in large herds, and unless being pressured by private land hunts, these herds can hold up on one or two private lands with no or minimal access. Not a recommended hunt, unless you have access to private land, or a significant weather event occurs that pushes elk to lower public land areas. Hunters should expect to spend several days hunting the area since these elk aren’t always available to hunters. The area is not known for having quality bulls.
Additional Hunting Opportunities: Areas 115 and 76 antelope, and areas 39 and 36 deer have an overlapping season, but not entirely (need to check regulations).
Herd Unit Job Completion Report: See EL322 (South Bighorns) job completion report for more detailed information on the management, bull ratios, and harvest of this elk herd.
