Topography and Vegetation: Very steep and rugged aspen and coniferous mountains. This hunt area is ideal for backpack and horseback hunters because of the lack of roads.
General Statement Regarding this Hunt Area: This area offers a backcountry type hunting experience, which is ideal for backpack and horseback hunters because of the lack of roads. Bucks typically inhabit high country above 8500 feet during summer and early fall, then move into timbered habitats during hunting season in response to pressure. Hunters should hunt timbered habitats in order to increase chances of success. There are several trails that are open to motorized vehicles during the hunting season, which offer access to the backcountry. Motorized access is generally restricted except on designated routes. Contact Forest Service for more information.
Additional Hunting Opportunities: Elk and moose can also be found in the area. Consult the elk, and moose regulations for hunt areas, license requirements and season dates. Black bears, mountain lions, and wolves are found here as well. Consult the black bear, mountain lion, and wolf regulations for hunt areas, license requirements, and season dates. Dusky and ruffed grouse are locally abundant in forested regions in the area. Consult the Upland Game Bird and Small Game Hunting Regulation for season dates, license requirements and bag/possession limits.
