Topography and Vegetation: Antelope occupy open and rolling habitats where the plant community mainly consists of sagebrush, grasses, and small forbs. They are rarely found in the portions of this hunt area where habitats are rough, timbered, and mountainous. They do however occupy higher-elevation sagebrush and grassland meadows during the summer and into fall.
General Statement Regarding this Hunt Area: This hunt area provides ample access to hunt antelope via BLM lands, state lands, and large Walk-In Areas. The area is also very large and contains vast expanses of native antelope habitat, so hunters can spread out should they choose to. Hunter crowding does occur in certain portions of the hunt area, where access is easiest. Hunters who desire a quieter hunt with more solitude should consider portions of the hunt area that are further from the City of Casper, and hunt week days rather than weekends or the season opener. Because of the size of this hunt area and extent of access, drawing odds and preference point requirements can be challenging, as this is a desirable hunt area sought by many. Hunters are cautioned to fully understand license limitations when they apply, as there are often some doe/fawn licenses that are restricted to use on or adjacent to irrigated farm lands. This hunt area hs trophy potential, and has produced some impressive bucks in recent years. This hunt area is directly adjacent to the City of Casper, so services such as hotels, gas stations, and restaurants are close and readily available. Primitive camping is also available within the hunt area on accessible BLM lands. Camping is not allowed on state lands.
Additional Hunting Opportunities: This area provides sage-grouse hunting opportunities. Cottontail rabbit waterfowl, and partridge hunting are also available in this area. Consult Chapter 11 (Upland Game Bird and Small Game) and Chapter 14 (Migratory Game Bird and Light Goose) hunting regulations for season dates, license requirements, and bag/possession limits.
