“Jesse, I heard black-footed ferrets are returning to Meeteetse, Wyoming. When are they going to be released?”
You heard right. Black-footed ferrets, which were once thought to be extinct, are headed back to the place where they were rediscovered. The reintroduction to that same spot will take place on July 26, 2016. The Wyoming Game and Fish, in collaboration with the US Fish and Wildlife Service Black-Footed Ferret Recovery Center, and many other partners, plan to release 35 black-footed ferrets. Two ranch owners near Meeteetse, Wyoming are supporting ferret recovery by hosting the release. Those two ranches, the Lazy BV and Pitchfork, are where ferrets were rediscovered in 1981.
