Nongame crews have been busy at Chain lakes Wildlife Habitat Management Area

Lander -  Nongame staff have been busy surveying the Chain Lakes Wildlife Habitat Management Area.  From April to August, the crew is documenting what animals occur within the WHMA. They are using trail cameras, bat detectors, and on the ground visual and audible surveys to complete their work.

Chain Lakes provides important winter habitat for pronghorn and, thanks to these surveys, we now know it’s also an important resting area for migrating waterfowl and shorebirds as they pass through the sagebrush sea. So far, 102 species have been detected with 72 of those being birds. This rivals many other birding hotspots in the state!
