With the help of Worland Game Warden Matt Lentsch, 14-year-old Ty Harris of Worland recently harvested his first elk.

Cody - With the help of Worland Game Warden Matt Lentsch, 14-year-old Ty Harris of Worland successfully harvested his first elk.  Lentsch mentored Ty and his father Steve Harris on their first elk hunt last week on a private ranch near Hyattville in Hunt Area 45.

“Ty harvested a cow elk on the second day of the hunt.  He made a perfect shot at 160 yards, and then helped us quarter the elk,” Lentsch said.  “You just couldn’t have asked for a better hunt.”

Lentsch became acquainted with Ty and his father last year when Ty participated in the Young Hunters Care program, a program coordinated by Lentsch in which young hunters harvested antlerless deer, processed the carcasses themselves and then donated the venison to local families in Worland.

Mentored youth hunts and the Young Hunters Care project are part of the Paintrock Hunter Mentor Program, which Lentsch founded in 2000.
