This 364-acre wildlife habitat management area is located approximately 2.5 miles North of Pinedale, WY adjacent to Fremont Lake. The area has rolling foothills and is dominated by sagebrush. There is also a large pond wetland area that provides waterfowl hunting and possible fishing opportunities. This parcel is adjacent to private, BLM, and USFS land and is near the Soda Lake WHMA. Many wildlife species live on or near the area, because of the habitat diversity. Besides elk, you may see mule deer, antelope, black bears, sage grouse, songbirds and many small mammals. Moose also frequent the wetland areas. Hunting is good to excellent within this area and the adjacent U.S. Forest Service lands. It has been identified by researchers with the Wyoming Migration Initiative as the most threatened portion in the internationally-significant bi-annual Red Desert to Hoback Mule Deer Migration. The WHMA was donated to the WGFD from The Conservation Fund in fall of 2016 and is managed to conserve mule deer migration and preserve open space for big game winter range habitat.

This WHMA lies within bear country, please visit our bear wise page for information on recreating in bear country - https://wgfd.wyo.gov/Wildlife-in-Wyoming/More-Wildlife/Large-Carnivore/Grizzly-Bear-Management/Bear-Wise-Wyoming

The WHMA is open for day use only with no overnight camping.

The seasonal closure is December 1 (12:00 am) - May 1 (6:00 am) to protect migrating wildlife and winter range. Please do not disturb migrating wildlife.
