HUNTING IN WYOMING

2018 WGFD Game Bird Farm Pheasant Release Information

It is the responsibility of each hunter to check current pheasant hunting, WHMA, HMA and WIA regulations specific to each hunting location. Some areas have youth only hunt days.

A Pheasant Special Management Permit is required for hunting pheasants in any of the listed pheasant release areas.

Annually, the Downar Bird Farm (DBF) and Sheridan Bird Farm (SBF) produce 17,000+ and 14,000 + pheasants respectively for release during the pheasant season.  Stocking numbers may fluctuate depending on weather and other circumstances beyond our control. Stockings rates and frequency are very important to bird farm staff and they will try hard to maintain the schedule above.  Hunting pressure as a result of limited access due to weather/fire or cover loss may cause schedules to change.  Areas with increased cover and hunt ability may receive more stockings, whereas areas with poor cover may receive fewer. Stocking could change due to weather and/or road conditions, but our personnel will do everything reasonable to get pheasants stocked as scheduled.  When situations arise that prevent birds from being stocked, which in many cases is a moment’s notice, the Department may not be able, in a timely fashion, to notify hunters of the delay. However in all cases, pheasants will be stocked as soon as possible after the delay.
