Wyoming Juniper Removal Helps to Bring Sage Grouse Back

On a windswept butte in southern Wyoming, a change is taking place – one that will eventually make thousands of acres more suitable for Greater Sage-grouse, mule deer and other wildlife, and improve domestic grazing, too. The rugged landscape around Flat Top Butte has gradually been taken over by juniper trees, reducing wildlife habitat by crowding out sagebrush and other native plants. That’s made it tough for sage grouse to flourish, or even survive.
