Gary Amrine Retires After 34 Years of Game and Fish Service

CHEYENNE - Gary Amrine, assistant division chief with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Services Division in Cheyenne, recently retired after 34 years of service.

Prior to his career at Game and Fish, Amrine attended Northwest Community College in Powell where he studied Range Management. During his career he has had many classes in management, supervision, and leadership.

In 1978 Amrine began his Game and Fish career as an elk feeder in Pinedale. In 1979 he was stationed in Dubois where he worked on wildlife habitat management areas, and in 1980 he was promoted to construction foreman in Yoder. In 1984 he transferred to Lovell as construction supervisor and in 1991 was promoted to construction manager in Cheyenne. He was promoted to assistant chief for the Services Division in 2004.

In 2008, he had oversight of Game and Fish’s move to a temporary location in Cheyenne while its facilities were remodeled, involving significant effort and coordination with contractors and department employees.

During his career Amrine has been honored as “Volunteer of the Year” by the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of Wyoming and is a member of the Wyoming chapters of the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep and The Wildlife Society. He also served as Game and Fish representative on the State Board of Outfitters and Professional Guides.

Amrine’s interests include hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He and his wife Kathy have two children.
