New Year Means New Licenses Needed

CHEYENNE - The Wyoming Game and Fish Department reminds hunters and anglers that most 2012 licenses and stamps are no longer valid in the new year.
The one exception is for 2012 elk licenses that are still valid in areas with elk seasons extending into January. Even though their 2012 elk license is valid in January, hunters are reminded that the 2012 conservation stamp has expired and a new one will be needed to participate in January elk hunts.
Hunting seasons for small game and some bird species extend into January and February, but 2013 bird and small game licenses are required to participate in those hunts. The season for Chukar and gray (Hungarian) partridge closes Jan. 31, and season for small game, cottontail rabbits, snowshoe hares, and squirrels close on Mar. 1.
In addition, some waterfowl seasons continue into January. A new bird license is needed for waterfowl hunters but the current Federal Migratory Bird and Conservation Stamp (duck stamp) and Harvest Information Program (HIP) permit are valid until June 30.
Licenses for 2013 are available online, at all automated license-selling agents, and at all Game and Fish Department offices. Manually issued paper licenses for 2013 are also available at manual license selling agents.
