CONSERVING WILDLIFE
- SERVING PEOPLE -
Human infection is always serious; care should be exercised when handling feces or fecal contaminated pelts of canids thought to be infected with Echinococcus spp. Companion animals should not be fed or allowed to scavenge carcasses or entrails of infected wildlife. Human infection with ascarid larvae can also be serious, particularly in children between the ages of one and five, but all ages are susceptible. Care should be exercised when handling feces (or any matter contaminated with feces) from infected animals to prevent infection. Companion animals should be periodically tested and treated.
