CODY - Due to extended runoff and severe erosion damage, some roads within Sunlight Wildlife Habitat Management Area are temporally closed to vehicular traffic.
Habitat and Access Supervisor Steve Ronne said that roads west of the cabins within Sunlight WHMA are currently impassable to vehicles. “The road closure blocks vehicle access to the west camping area on Game and Fish land and access through the north side of the habitat area to adjacent Shoshone National Forest Service roads leading up to the Trail and Painter Creek drainages,” Ronne said.
“The damage is severe and will require major repairs and rebuilding or rerouting of the main roadway. Once the road dries up, we can begin work to address these issues,” Ronne said.
“The area is open to foot and horseback travel only until the roads can be repaired or rebuilt.”
