Ask the Game and Fish

3/24/2014

Q. How old do kids need to be before they are required to get a fishing license?

A. It depends on residency. Wyoming resident youth do not need a fishing license until they are 14 years of age. Nonresident youth also do not need a fishing license until they are 14 provided they are fishing with a licensed adult and their catch is included in the adult’s bag limit. If nonresident youth under 14 want to catch their own limit, a fishing license is required. By contrast, resident youth under 14 can catch their own limit without a license
