Wyoming HIP Permits No Longer Sold/Available Online Only

8/12/2013

CHEYENNE - Wyoming migratory bird hunters can still get their HIP (National Harvest Information Program) permits online, but the permits will no longer be sold as in the past.

Game and Fish is alerting migratory bird hunters that the National Harvest Information Program (HIP) validation permit will no longer be sold at Wyoming hunting license vendors or Game and Fish offices.

In previous years Wyoming HIP validation permits were available free of charge online or for .50 at Game and Fish offices. HIP permits are still free but are now only available online and must be printed from the Game and Fish website wgfd.wyo.gov. The change is part of the department’s transition to a paperless application process and on-line services.

All licensed migratory bird hunters must complete a HIP validation and must obtain a Wyoming HIP validation permit before they can legally hunt migratory game birds in Wyoming. The HIP permit is required of all licensed hunters who hunt doves, ducks, geese, mergansers, coots, sandhill crane, snipe, or rails. The National Harvest Information Program is a federal program that improves the ability of wildlife officials to estimate harvest for management of migratory game species.

Hunters are reminded that HIP permits are nontransferable to other states. A separate HIP validation is required for hunting in each state.
