Bert Jellison Retires After 35 Years of Game and Fish Service

4/23/2013

SHERIDAN - Bert Jellison, terrestrial habitat biologist in Sheridan, has retired after 35 years of service with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

Jellison began his Game and Fish career as a fish technician in Casper in April 1978. Four months later he was promoted to habitat specialist at Ocean Lake where he served until transferring to Lovell in August 1984. He was promoted to his current position in August 1992. During his time in Sheridan, he organized and completed many habitat projects through partnerships with various groups.

“I would like to recognize the outstanding contributions and service to our state and wildlife made by Bert Jellison through a truly exceptional career in wildlife,” said Chief Game Warden Brian Nesvik. “He is leaving behind a legacy in Sheridan that will benefit wildlife for decades to come.”

Nesvik added, “Some of Bert's most notable accomplishments were related to wildlife habitats conserved in perpetuity through thoughtfully funded and negotiated conservation easements. He will certainly be missed. I congratulate Bert on his tremendous career dedicated to wildlife.”

Jellison earned a bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology and range management from Colorado State University in December 1977. He received a Conservation Service Award from Ducks Unlimited in 1990 and the Peer Recognition Award from Game and Fish’s Sheridan/Casper regions in 1995. He was nominated for Wildlife Division employee of the year in 2004. He earned the prestigious W.R. Chapline Land Stewardship Award from the Society of Range Management’s Wyoming section in 2012.

Jellison and his wife, Debbie, have been recognized for their resource stewardship on the ranch they manage along Piney Creek northeast of Buffalo where they will continue to make their home in retirement. The Jellisons have two adult daughters.
