4/15/2013

CHEYENNE - Grayling, Mich., artist Kim Diment’s painting of a pair of ruffed grouse was judged best in show April 12 at Wyoming’s 30th annual Wyoming Conservation Stamp Art Competition. Diment’s painting was selected by a panel of judges from among 51 entries from 20 states.

Each year, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department selects one species as the subject of the competition, and which eventually appears on more than 100,000 conservation stamps. Diment earned the $3,500 first-place premium with her entry, “Dine and Dash,”featuring grouse feeding on berries. Other artists placing in the competition include: second place ($1,500), Dan Andrews, Denver, Colo.,; third place ($750), Jeffrey Klinefelter, Etna Green, Ind..

Honorable mentions went to Bruce Speidel, Sundance, Wyo.; Wayne Chunat, Malvern, Ohio; Bill Adair, Gulf Breeze Fla.; Karla Mann, Virginia Beach, Va.; Sara Stack, North Bend Ore.; Stephen Hemrick, Lakeville, Minn.; Art Biro, Beechmont, Ky.; and William Smith, Jackson, Wyo.

The paintings will be on display at the Game and Fish headquarters through April 30 during business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday). All entries, except for first place, are available for purchase. The first, second, and third place paintings, plus eight meriting honorable mention by the judges, can be seen on the Game and Fish website: wgfd.wyo.gov.

Winning paintings from previous years are on display at the Game and Fish headquarters in Cheyenne. Next year’s competition subject will be the sauger, one of Wyoming’s native game fish species
