Drawing Conducted for Nonresident Elk Licenses

2/27/2013

CHEYENNE - One of the most anticipated drawings of the year for nonresident hunters was conducted last week with 7,252 hunters receiving full-price elk licenses. Another 1,514 reduced-price cow/calf elk licenses were issued.

The numbers of licenses issued this year were similar to previous years, but there were more than 300 more applications than in 2012. A total of 17,704 applicants applied this year, compared to 17,380 in 2012. This is the first year that application booklets were not printed (as the vast majority of hunters choose to apply online). Last year, 88 percent of nonresident hunters chose the online option, this year online applicants increased to more than 91 percent.

Nonresidents can learn whether they were successful in the drawing at wgfd.wyo.gov or by calling 307-777-4600. Licenses (for those who drew) and refund warrants (for those who were unsuccessful in the drawings) will be mailed beginning the first week of March.

Nonresidents who did not draw or get into the drawing this year will have another opportunity to get a license this summer. Full-price licenses left over after the resident drawing will be sold beginning July 10 and reduced price cow/calf licenses will go on sale July 17. Leftover licenses will be sold online at wgfd.wyo.gov, Game and Fish offices and automated license agents.
