Q. Is it legal to clean my fish at a different lake than where I caught the fish?
A. There is no regulation requiring fish to be cleaned at the location where they are caught. However, keep in mind that when cleaning fish, if length limits apply, the whole body must remain intact when in transit or in the field. If length limits do not apply, a piece of skin of at least one square inch must be left on fillets to allow species identification while in the field. See page 4 in the fishing regulation for special regulations on cleaning walleye and sauger caught in the Bighorn, Wind, and Tongue River drainages.
