CHEYENNE - Virginia Beach, Va., artist Karla Mann’s painting “Piggyback Ride” of a greater short horned lizard and its young was judged best in show at the Apr. 13 judging of Wyoming’s 29th annual Wyoming Conservation Stamp Art Competition.

Mann’s painting was selected by a panel of judges out of 59 entries representing 18 states. Thirty-five Wyoming artists entered the competition this year. Wyoming’s state reptile, the greater short horned lizard (commonly referred to as the horned toad), was the subject of this year’s competition.

Mann’s entry earned her the first place money of $3,500. Other artists placing in the competition were: 2nd- Clark Ostergaard, Taylorsville, Utah, $1,500; 3rd – Linda Eppinger Johnson, Riverton, Wyo. $750.

Honorable mentions went to Kip Richmond, Apex N.C.; Paul Twitchell, West Point, Utah; Joy Keown, Laramie, Wyo.; Rebecca LaCourse, Hollis Center, Maine; and Bill Scheidt, Boerne, Texas.

The paintings will be on display at Game and Fish Headquarters in Cheyenne through May 11. Hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. All but the first place paintings are available for purchase. The top ten paintings can be seen on the Game and Fish website by Clicking Here.
