Current academic studies and program evaluations suggest that taking education outside can invigorate educators, increase student’s interest in learning and comprehension and foster a positive relationship between students, teachers and their community. The Forever Wild Educator Resources approach emphasizes hands-on,real-world learning experiences that challenge students to learn and solve problems. It helps students develop stronger ties to their region, enhances student’s appreciation of the natural world and creates a heightened commitment for conserving wildlife and other natural resources. In addition to academics, students learn life-long skills that can help them bond with others and enhance their physical and mental health. The department is contracting with a professional curriculum writer to develop state education-based standards focused on wildlife, hunting, natural resources and keeping youth in grades 6th-12th Forever Wild.
